Orientation Part 1

Image
Today was the day. Today was the first day of my college's Orientation programme. When I woke up, I was nervous, and felt like crawling back underneath my blankets. I got ready for college in a daze, feeling like time was moving way too fast. The time to leave for college came too soon. My mummy and sister dropped me off at college. They stayed with me until I registered, before leaving. After that, I went up to the Auditorium, where I waited before the orientation started. At 8:30am, roughly 170 of us, started orientation. The morning was filled with lecture after lecture, about various issues. There were lectures on dress code, library rules, club activities and the core values of the college. We learned the locations of offices, cafeterias and classrooms. One of the things we learned about was two compulsory subjects that we would be taking:Charcater Formation and Service Learning. In order to pass our course, we must pass these two subjects. Character Formation is bas...

Art

When I was younger, I thought that I was useless. I wasn't smart, artistic or athletic. Neither did I have a beautiful voice or the ability to play a musical instrument. I would always feel upset, looking at others with these kind of skills. My main problem was that I was an impatient person. I would get bored when I was sewing something, and then my stitches would be crooked. I have tried learning how to play musical instruments, such as the ukulele and flute, but I would give up, fed up with the lack of progress.  Whenever I tried to learn a new skill, I would most likely stop trying out of impatience, as I wanted to learn the skill as fast as possible. It was the same story whenever I tried drawing or colouring. I would get bored while trying to draw a cup or when I was trying to finish colouring a complicated design. The only thing that I was good at artistically, was matching colours. I eventually gave up trying to learn such things, and stuck to reading storybooks...

High Heels

Image
Whenever I hear the words high heels, two words come to mind: pretty but painful. High heels are nice shoes. They come in a variety of colours and they vary in design as well. They can even make the wearer look taller, which is always nice. However, walking in high heels sounds like torture to me.  I have tried walking in them before, and I felt like I was going to fall over. I kept walking in an awkward and unflattering way. The worst part? My toes felt a bit squashed up in the shoe, which is normal! I'm sure walking around in heels for a long period of time will be a painful affair. That's why I try my best to avoid wearing high heels as much as possible. So, imagine my reaction when I learned I have to wear heels from 8am until 4pm, next Monday and Tuesday! The reason why I have to do so, is due to my college's Orientation Programme. I have to show up in formal attire: a blouse/dress with long sleeves, a below knee-length skirt and court shoes. Court ...

Camp5

Image
I have always been an adventurous person. I like activities like the Flying Fox zip line, paintball, obstacle courses and wall climbing. However, there are not many opportunities for me to go for theses activities. That's why I am always so excited when I do get to go for these activities. The last time I went wall climbing, I was ten years old. I did it at Outward Bound, which was fun, but I felt the wall there was too easy for me. So, when I learned about Camp5 from mummy, I was enthusiastic about going. The plan was for Lydia, a friend, and I to go, as Mummy had a buy 1 free 1 voucher. If Lydia couldn't go, my sister would go with me instead. Lydia was busy, so my sister was forced to go with me. (Though I'm sure she was secretly happy after that.) It was a fun experience. My sister and I were part of a group, which were made up of kids, teenagers and adults. There were two instructors, who taught us how to properly climb a wall. We tried three different ...

Crabs and College

Image
Sometimes, things are easier said than done. At 6:30am, my alarm rang. My mummy, sister and I were all rudely awaken by my alarm. As the one who has to start attending college in 3 days, they left the decision up to me. I got to decide whether were we going jogging. Guess what I chose. After my decision was made, I slept for another hour and a half. I woke up at 8am, feeling lazy but refreshed. As these few days are meant to help me to get used to a routine again, my sister and I started the day with a copying session. Then, I practiced some typing. While doing so, there were contractors at our house, fixing our lights and air-conditioners. Once I finished typing, I read a storybook: Morning Star. This is my second time reading the book, and I enjoyed reading it again. Morning Star is the third book in the Red Rising trilogy, which was written by Pierce Brown. It is a sci-fi series, focusing on the ideas of freedom and the cost of war. Around 12pm, my daddy, sister and I le...

Time Waits For No One

Image
I groaned at the sound of my alarm this morning. I tossed and turned, dreading the fact that I had to get up and go jogging. My only wish at that moment: to continue snuggling with my blanket and fall back into a blissful sleep. After a minute of groaning, I dragged myself out of bed and shuffled to Mummy's room to wake her up. Even though I entered the room grumpy, I left the room feeling happy. We agreed that we were lazy, so my wish was granted! I got to continue snuggling with my blanket, and go back to sleep. I woke up at 8:20am, feeling lazy, but rested. My sister and I had a quick breakfast of bread. Then, we started our copying session. After all, like typing, handwriting is boring to practice. So, it's better to practice handwriting with a partner. My sister is nice enough to be my partner, even though she doesn't need the practice. Once we were done, I did some typing. My mummy, sister and I chatted, while we each did our own work. Mummy had to meet an e...

New Year Resolutions

Image
I have always found it difficult to meet new year resolutions. For the past few years, I have not accomplished many of my new year resolutions, but this year I am determined to meet all of my resolutions. One of them was already mentioned yesterday: record my thoughts on a daily basis. As long as I am disciplined, I am confident that I will accomplish this. With me attending college, I doubt that there will be any shortage of things to write about. Another resolution of mine is to improve my handwriting. With me attending college soon, I will need to be able to write fast and neat. To practice, I have been copying out passages from the Bible. This is good, as by copying, I am reading the Bible. I also want to learn how to type properly. I already started learning a month ago, through a free website online. I'm not typing like a pro yet, but I am getting better. Typing will be a useful skill for me, and I'm glad I am learning. However, practicing my typing is boring and re...
